I started about 5 years ago. When I moved to Birmingham I noticed stickers and streetart all over the city.
All my stickers are hand-drawn and they can be done at home. It’s a way of getting my art onto the streets in an easy way. 2 seconds and they’re up. Its also a way of communicating with other artists
around the city.
I met liskbot at a live drawing event and he just said to for it – so I did.
I not sure, stickers are probably thought as one of the least artistic genres under the streetart umbrella. However I don’t agree – all art is a form of expression whichever way it manifests itself. There are some amazing sticker artists out there.
Yes it is an art. As i said it’s more a way of communicating with other artists – one sticker will go up somewhere and before you know it there will be lots more.
Well I am always drawing and painting. All my work is hand-drawn. Stickers, pastes everything. At the moment I preparing some work for a show in the summer in Birmingham.
The farthest I have been is Barcelona, a city I love. But my stickers have popped up all over the world. Australia , America all over. I used to trade stickers like crazy back in the day. I have black books with some amazing work by artists from all over the world.
My advice I would pass on is something ptp323 said to me in the beginning. Use the best markers you can. Posca – Pentels ( Sharpies are not good for the streets ) Stickers too – 228s, hmni, we have ones in the uk cn22s they all stay stuck once they go up. If you spend time doing them it’s good to know they will be around for awhile.
Well yes there are a few. Liskbot,Johnny vacant, ptp323, setdebelleza, c3, 13skills, mssdcnnctn, iwalkadifferentpath all of who I’ve been on various escapades around the streets of Birmingham. D7606 who has always encouraged me.
Fokawolf – always hand-drawn and always getting up.
If you are thinking of doing it stop thinking about it and start doing it. My stuff was rubbish in the
beginning but I’ve drawn my character thousands of times now and I think it’s improved over the years. There is no right or wrong it’s whatever works for you. Thanks to all who have helped and encouraged me over the years. Cheers coys1.
