02. Trieb Werke

01. How would you define Trieb Werke?

Trieb in german means like urge or drive. And I think that urge or drive is why I put up stickers, tags or anything else. The urge to see my name or my characters in the streets. I think that´s the reason why I choose that name.

02. How did all begin? How long have you been with this?

I was interested in graffiti since ever. I saw all the pieces and panels in my hometown and often went driving by train to see new pieces at the line and on train. I think 2002 I made my first shitty tags with another name. The name Trieb I use for about 8 years I think. And that was the time when I got really into stickers, tiles, paste ups and all that. Before that I only sometimes went out tagging.

03. Why do you attaching stickers?

Because its a very versatile tool. You can do multilayers, paint on it, screenprint it and so on…but the main reason is that stickers are a really fast way to make your mark

04. An interesting anecdote?

One time I went out to put some stickers with a friend. We found an old chair and carried it with us to climb on it and hit some higher spots. When my friend was standing on it and put a sticker on a sign a police car pulled over and stopped. They asked us what we where doing there. After we had told him some bullshit storys the cop didn´t believed, he said. You´ve got a last chance top tell me a story why you are climbing there, otherwise I have to bring you to the police-station to search your bags. So my friend told him we where Art students collecting Stickers for our artclass. Surprisingly the cop believed it and went his way.

05. How do you see the sticker culture? Is there really subculture?

I really don´t know. I´m not into trading and sending stickers, so i´m not a good example for saying something about this.

06. Do you considerer this movement like an art? What do you try to transmit with this?

Often I don´t think it´s art. To print an adaption or copy of an obey design or a “banksy like” rat, or a “star wars” adaption isn´t art to me. It all maybe has his value but it isn´t art in my eyes. I would name it streetdesign, and some of it is really funny and entertaining! For me the art in the “sticker movement” is to find an own unique style, to create unique characters and letters. But that´s only my opinion right now. Maybe in a few years i´ll have another view on it.
I´m not trying to express something special with it. I just do it for fun and because of the “trieb”.

07. Anything new in mind?

Yes. A new beer.

08. Farthest place where do you have gone? Where would you like see your stickers?

The farthest place i´have gone was Lombok in Indonesia. But I didn´t put up much stickers there. I would really like to see my stickers on the moon.

09. Some advice for the people are beginning in this art?

Be unique and find your own style. Do it for fun!

10. Someone who had been a reference for you?

Most of my Inspiration comes from graffiti that I see when I´m on the train or when I travel. And there are also some guys from my hometown (or nearby) who´s stuff is really inspiring me,
like bse, pqus, esem or viktor.

11. Whom would you offer next month?

I´m calling “Pozt” because he´s really into trading and the whole sticker movement.

Do you have anyting to say? Greatings and thank you?
