04. Karl-Heinz Swaggert

01. How would you define Karl-Heinz Swaggert?

Kalle (short form of Karl-Heinz) is a bearded dude, who gets creative with different materials. If he likes what he created, he will put it on the street.

02. How did all begin? How long have you been with this?

As far as I can remember, I have been painting, but as life goes there have been breaks in between. You could say it has been a gradual process. I was always interested in Graffiti, and following that, I quickly discovered sticker art. Initially, I started to take pictures of stickers and uploaded them on Instagram, but after I attended a street art tour in my hometown, I decided to put my creative work on the street as well. This was the point when I started with stencils. Then, during an exhibition in 2015, I met „PDOT“ and „Smile“ whose work I have known and admired. Since I had a bunch of adhesive foils at home and did not know what to do with them, I offered PDOT and Smile to pick them up at my place. When PDOT visited me at my place, he asked why I wasn’t creating stickers as well. So I guess you could say this was the starting point of my sticky career. Since then I’ve sticked to it 😉

03. Why do you attaching stickers?

Honestly, it is an addiction! Stickers are easy to apply and you can get super creative with them. You are modifying the public space, making every city prettier and much more colorful. You can discover so much street art once you open your eyes and see the art around you.

04. An interesting anecdote?

Probably, but I was way too drunk to remember 😉

05. How do you see the sticker culture? Is there really subculture?

There are many talented and creative people who like to swap sticker packs. There are sticker art Instagrammers, then there are all the ones who organize exhibitions or sticker festivals. There are also people who are running an sticker-museum (Props to @hatchkindgom) and much more! So yes, sticker art is definitely its own subculture.

06. Do you considerer this movement like an art? What do you try to transmit with this?

If it is art, does it makes me an artist then? I still have difficulties seeing myself as an artist….I’m just a dude who loves to create stickers – The beholder shall decide whether it is art or not.

07. Anything new in mind?

Always! I’m never devoid of ideas, just too little time.

08. Farthest place where do you have gone? Where would you like see your stickers?

I have never been further away than Siberia, you will find my stickers there for sure! I loved seeing my work at KALLEfornia USA. Mount KALLEmanjaro would be cool as well 🙂

09. Some advice for the people are beginning in this art?

Just do it! Done is always better than perfect. Respect other artists and never ever cover up their art (except when there is any expression of right-wing radicalism – in this case you HAVE TO!). And… who stucks higher stays for longer.

10. Someone who had been a reference for you?

Way too many to count… 😉

11. Whom would you offer next month?

@creepkollektiv! They are talented, versatile and just good people.

Do you have anyting to say? Greatings and thank you?

Thanks for having me at Stickemzine and many greetings to the whole sticker community!
